‍Metric math tip: If you prefer to work in square feet, you can more or less add a zero and then a little bit more; for example, 100 square metres is 1076 square feet. It's not exact, but it's quick. Worth knowing: In a word – Sea Dance is lovely. If you’re looking for fuss – head elsewhere. It’s calm, quiet, and did I say lovely? Graph fuss and formality on one axis, with cost on the other, and Sea Dance Resort hits the sweet spot – a perfectly casual island beach resort at a moderate cost.

3. Garrya Tongsai Bay

Worth knowing: Tongsai Seaview Pool Villas and Wellbeing Seafront Pool Villas have 3.3m x 7.3m private pools and can be linked together for larger groups. All 83 rooms have private outdoor bathtubs.

Worth knowing: A garden lap pool is available for swimmers, plus kayaks and paddleboards at the beach. SALA Samui Chaweng opened in 2019, so the equipment is relatively new.

Worth knowing: An absolute reader favourite. Casa de Mar is on the quieter north end of Chaweng Beach, with an infinity pool, good breakfast and a small gym.

Worth knowing: Conrad Koh Samui won #1 Luxury Honeymoon Hotel in South East Asia at last year's World Luxury Hotel Awards. For lots of space, book a Two-Bedroom King Ocean View Pool Villa. It's split over two levels, with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchenette and – like every villa at Conrad – a private infinity pool (12 metres/40 feet).
