Koh Samui nightlife for all ages

Koh Samui nightlife offers something for all tastes and temperaments...

1. Bophut Beach nightlife

Higher-end beach-front dining found at various resorts.

2. Fishermen’s Village nightlife

Romantic dinners and classy eats. This quiet stretch is also ideal for families after a tame but memorable evening. A variety of restaurants, pubs and lounges line the village road.

3. Chaweng nightlife

The island’s biggest town hosts raucous Samui nightlife. Think Vegas, on a beach. (Prefer the Southern Hemisphere? Get the details for Koh Samui's best Aussie bars).

4. Muay Thai kickboxing match

Grin and bear it - it’s a bit brutal. Fights are held one night a week. The main event starts between 10-10:30pm. (Chaweng Stadium, near the lake and the Reggae Pub). Need more details? The advertisements will come to you – on a truck that drives in a circle with a loudspeaker. "Tonight, tonight starts at 9 p.m., tonight...". You get the picture.

5. Ladyboy show

Various Chaweng clubs offer nightly cabarets featuring gorgeous khatoeys ("cattoys" or ladyboys). You’ve never seen Madonna like this.

6. Choeng Mon Beach nightlife

A stretch of locally-owned beach restaurants delivers beach BBQs, live music and low-key holiday bliss. (See 12 more reasons why you'll love Choeng Mon).

7. Maenam nightlife

It will be the opposite of epic, but beer tastes great with peace and quiet, too. Though its own remote bubble, Maenam Beach does have one or two live music venues.

8. Koh Samui pub quizzes

Winners take the pot, losers drink a dodgy shot. There are others, though the Wednesday Frog & Gecko Pub Quiz (Fishermen's Village) is the most long-standing. Booking a table in advance is recommended. At the end of Fisherman’s Village, across from the Smile House. Questions tend to be UK-centric, so make sure to adopt some Brits for your team. If you read Hello! magazine you'll do very well.

9. Walking streets

These hugely popular nights out are a delightful Thai speciality and can be found all over the island. Try Maenam Beach on Thursdays and Koh Samui's capital town, Nathon, on Saturdays.
